Online Application Status
If you choose to receive your EIN instantly online, your EIN
will be presented to you in your browser and you may immediately
print your completed application (Form SS-4) with the EIN on
the form.
However, your application will still be individually reviewed by
IRS personnel. They are checking for such things as invalid SSN,
improper business name, inappropriate business classification,
etc. This hand review takes about 7 to 10 business days. During
this review period, your EIN is classed as 'temporary'. If you
call the IRS before they have completed the review of your
application, the IRS telephone agents will not have access to
the application, and you will be told that they find no record.
Upon successful completion of this review process, your EIN will
be classed as 'approved'. If the review finds any issues, the
IRS will send a letter (or fax) to you requesting additional
information.
Changes to an Existing EIN
If you have already applied for and received your EIN and you need
to make changes to your application (such as to change the business
name), you must call IRS at 1-800-829-4933.
Completing an Unfinished Application
You can complete a previously started but unfinished application
by going here and clicking
"Edit Application."
Multiple requests
I need to apply for multiple businesses using the same e-mail
address.
If you need to submit multiple EIN
applications for different businesses
under the same
e-mail address, suffix a : and a number to your e-mail address,
i.e. harrymiller@aol.com:2 when creating your account.
This will establish a record for each new application but
will allow us to communicate with you using the non-suffixed
version of your e-mail address (i.e. harrymiller@aol.com).
Forgot Password
If you have lost or forgotten your password, you can have
it e-mailed to you. If your e-mail account has changed, you
